Our sustainable performance
With our sustainable performance, we are committed to the agreements made in the Paris Climate Act to stay below 2° C global warming. In 2007 we were the first energy company to choose for a sustainable strategy. Read all about our sustainable performances
Fuel mix disclosure
A share of the electricity supplied to our corporate clients in the Netherlands and Belgium still comes from non-sustainable sources, as these customers still buy fossil electricity from us. This comes partly from our natural gas and cogeneration power plants and some of it is sourced from third-party suppliers. Since 2020, the Dutch government has applied the so-called "full disclosure", which, in line with sustainably produced energy, also means that electricity from fossil sources receives a certificate; a so-called Certificate of Origin (CoO). Every MWh of fossil energy guarantees a CoO certificate. In the Netherlands, Eneco only uses CoOs from natural gas and cogeneration power plants. Because of full disclosure we can exclude coal and nuclear energy for our Dutch customers. We still source fossil electricity from third parties for less than half of the volume of our corporate customers in Belgium. A so-called country mix is used for this third party sourcing, which gives an indication of the source. As a result, we cannot (yet) exclude electricity from coal and nuclear power plants for these corporate customers in Belgium. In Germany and Great Britain, our power supply is 100% green.
