Karel started his career as a strategy consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). As a consultant, Karel worked with large organizations to tackle their challenges, mostly within the energy & private equity / M&A industries. His time at BCG taught him that his passion is to help companies realize growth, specifically related to cleantech and renewable energy. Karel gained hands-on experience on this topic during a one-year sabbatical, where he worked for a cleantech oriented venture capital fund (StartGreen capital), and guided business development for a scale-up in Kenya.

Karel transitioned to from being a consultant to being an investor in fall 2020, when he joined Eneco Ventures. His mission here is to combine his drive for innovation and growth in renewable energy with realizing shareholder value.

Karel has a BSc in Industrial Engineering and Management from the University of Groningen, and an MSc in Econometrics from the University of Cambridge. Karel loves outdoor sports such as running, cycling, and kitesurfing.
